You might feel flattened by the disruptions and constant demands. If things feel out of control, and you need someone you can talk to regularly who gets it, this is for you! You don’t have to do this alone – you have choices, and things CAN get better.

This is for the person who has been dealing with the pain of addiction in the family for a long time. Maybe things were “okay” but now something has changed. It's getting worse. You want to maintain your balance when the wrecking ball keeps coming at you, and create a new game plan to avoid it. You may not feel like you need weekly support right now.

Bi-weekly Support

A note on the term “addict”: yes, it can be the usual things that come to mind (drugs, alcohol), but you may need help dealing with any addiction or obsession – gambling, food, shopping, overworking, sex, porn, working out, whatever. There is no “one” type of behavior that needs support more than another. If someone close to you is exhibiting obsessive or addictive behaviors (no matter what they are), I’m here for you!

You deserve JOY.

During our sessions, my goal is for you to find hope, lose the guilt and feel more compassion for yourself.

When you see choices you didn’t see before, you’ll feel less trapped by unreasonable demands. Together, we’ll find ways for you to survive, even if your loved one is still drinking or using. And most importantly, you will know that you deserve to do something fun EVERY day.

You deserve JOY.

  • Why do I deserve to take time for self-care when my person is suffering so horribly?
  • What do I really owe my adult family member? What if they can’t seem to manage their own life?
  • Should I let my loved one hit "rock bottom"? Should I let them live with me? Or pay their rent?
  • Am I a terrible person for wanting to run away to another planet?

You may be thinking:

I’ve wrestled with ALL of those things and more.

You’re not alone!

You deserve to have those things too, as well as hope for the future!

My training and ability to understand without judgement make me the perfect partner to support you as you navigate the next steps on your journey. I know when I found understanding, help and validation, everything changed. I was able to function so much better, and actually enjoy my life.

I’ve wrestled with ALL of those things and more.

Hey, I’m Terry!

I love living in Colorado! For the last 20 years, I’ve worked in real estate here. My attorney background has helped with contracts, negotiations, and sticky situations, while being a Certified Coach has trained me to truly listen to my clients and hone in on how to help them best accomplish their goals. When I’m not hanging out with family, playing with my dogs, or planning crazy art quilts that rarely get completed, I love to hike or spend time in the woods in my camp trailer. Nature is essential to keeping my spirit peaceful!

Alcoholism and addiction have been the sub-theme of my life for decades… It just took a long time to figure that out! I’ve been where you are and I know how you feel.

Support Partner, Perspective Coach, & Founder of Addict In My Family

Our son was an adorable little boy, who loved to run and climb, but also had a lot of trouble sitting still in school, which led to an ADHD/learning disability diagnosis. As he grew up, things went from bad to worse. What started as a drinking problem led to accidents, leaving school, and drug addiction. I was a wreck – terrified, overwhelmed, and didn’t want anyone to know.

Over the years, I went to many hours of Al-anon meetings and therapy, and I tried what felt like everything. Eventually, I saw how my actions had often made things worse, even with the best intentions behind them. I learned from many painful errors, then made the same mistakes over and over again (if only I had known then what I know now!).

Today, my son is sober but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. His struggles continue, and so do mine. The difference is now I have the tools and perspective to make our situation easier.

Now I use my training and experience to support those with addiction in their family so they can stop struggling alone, start taking care of themselves, and find a way to keep moving in the right direction. I'd love to walk with you on this difficult journey as you discover your own way toward relief, not feeling alone, and the peace you are meant to have!

My story might be similar to yours and that’s exactly why I created Addict In My Family – to provide support for people living and struggling with the pain of addiction in their family.
